The Academy of Performing Arts - is an independent theatre school offering professional training for 5-17 year olds in the performing arts.
We run classes in Oakley and Wootton, in Bedford, Bedfordshire.
To succeed as a performer in today's increasingly congested business, performers must be multi-skilled; it is very rare that you find a performer who is purely skilled in acting or a singer with no movement abilities. That is why, here at The Academy, we train our students to be proficient in all 3 disciplines in a combined 3 hour class that covers a singing class, dance class and drama class.
Our students are introduced to a broad range of skills and styles designed to challenge and encourage them to improve and grow as performers.
Our experienced teachers will recognise areas in which the students need improvement and tailor each individual class to suit their needs.
The students are divided into three separate performance companies and are trained in acting, singing and dance.
“A” Company - 13 - 17yrs
“B” Company - 10 - 12yrs
“C” Company - 7 - 9yrs
Young Academy 5 - 7yrs
The idea of ‘The Company’ is very important to us at The Academy. When our students take to the stage, they are never alone but always supported by a strong, loyal and encouraging company!
The school runs on a constant cycle of “Skills’, “Assessment” and “Show” Terms.
During the Skills Term, the students bulid up their key performance skills with an hour of dance, an hour of drama and an hour of singing tuition.
During the Assessment Term, each individual company work on a prepared musical theatre performance piece that is performed and assessed as part of our Assessment evening. Students receive a written assessment report following the performance, this helps to guide their learning and helps them to improve and grow as performers.
The Show Term gives Academy students the opportunity to do what they do best... put their newly acquired skills into practice by means of a fully staged and costumed musical theatre performance.
